Pride Joseni – Judea ZCC Media
Members of the Judea Zion Christian Church (Judea ZCC) are today remembering the life and legacy of their late spiritual leader, Bishop Dr. Ofiro Mawewe, who passed away on 16 March 2024. The day has become a moment of deep reflection for congregants as they honour his remarkable contribution to the church’s growth and spiritual strength.
The Judea Zion Christian Church was founded in 1923 by the late Prophet Sauro Maguta Mawewe, popularly known as Chikamba the First. Through his prophetic ministry and spiritual leadership, he laid the foundation of a church that would later grow to reach thousands of followers in Zimbabwe and beyond.
Following the passing of Prophet Sauro Maguta Mawewe, his son, Dr. Ofiro Mawewe, took over leadership of the church in 1979, continuing the spiritual mission his father had begun. Under his leadership, the church experienced significant growth both in Zimbabwe and across Africa, with the vision of expanding the ministry to the rest of the world.
Before his passing, Bishop Dr. Mawewe was working to establish new branches of the church in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America as part of his vision to spread the gospel globally. He also placed strong emphasis on empowerment, encouraging church members to pursue self-sufficiency and economic independence.
In recognition of his influence and service to the community, Bishop Dr. Ofiro Mawewe was honoured as a Provincial Hero in Masvingo Province. Many residents in the province remember him for the numerous spiritual deliverances he performed and the lives he touched through his prophetic ministry.
Political leaders in Masvingo Province also joined church members in remembering the late bishop. ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial Chairperson, Hon. Senator Mavhenyengwa, together with other political leaders, paid tribute to Dr. Mawewe, acknowledging his humility and the positive impact he had on communities across the province.
Dr. Mawewe was widely respected as a prophet par excellence whose declarations and prayers brought hope and transformation to many people’s lives. His humility and compassion earned him respect from church members, community leaders and political figures alike.
Addressing the nation on social media today, Bishop Chikamba said the church continues to honour the works of the late servant of God.
“Tinorangarira mabasa akaitwa neMuranda waMwari nekuti nanhasi tichiri kuona kunaka kwawo pakusimudzira kereke yeJudea Zion Christian Church.”
As members gather to commemorate this important day, they celebrate the life of a leader whose dedication helped shape the direction of the Judea Zion Christian Church. Although he is no longer physically present, believers say the legacy of Bishop Dr. Ofiro Mawewe continues to live on through the faith, unity and vision he helped build within the church.
